Martha Schwartz has used sheet metal to create a public realm pavilion at Fengming Mountain Park. The park itself is 16 000 metres squared and is located in Shapingba, Chonqing. Opened in 2013, the park takes visitors on a journey via a series of iconic mountain-shaped folies, plazas, greenery and water features. At the end of the journey visitors find themselves along the proposed Vanke Golden City Development sales centre where the park was created to draw attention too.
Architects were tasked with creating a site representative of the surrounding mountains and streams, Martha Schwartz used different colours and texture such as the sheet metal to create such a feel. Schwartz used tones of oranges and angular features to represent the majestic mountainside surrounding Fengming Mountain Park. His design also uses water features to represent the tranquillity of the sites surrounding nature.
Once visitors have arrived they make their way past a series of pavilions, each pavilion has been strategically placed along the path to lead tourists towards the sales centre area as though they too were walking down a mountain. The artful pavilions provide are beautiful look at during the day as the sun shines through the sheet metal as well as at night when park representatives light the displays up.
