Designers, architects, fabricators rejoice! There is no need to pay for perforated sheet metal that you don’t need.
Traditionally, the major suppliers of perforated metal sheet have required a minimum purchase of 1000mm x 2000mm but more often a 1200x2400 sheet – even if the requirement is much less.
Even more common is that a design requires a perforated pattern that may be 500mm wide and 1100mm high with a 50mm return folded and welded, the perforations are extended through the folds and welds – reducing the structural integrity of the product, exposing a serrated edge that can be dangerous and also reduces the aesthetic value of the item.
To try and get around this fabricators have resorted to making an external and additional frame and slotting the perforated mesh into it. This is a more expensive, time consuming and potentially ugly “fix”. – We know because we used to make screens this way too.
To overcome this problem we invested in a turret punch which allows us to make perforated panels the exact size that they need to be, with the right sized border and notched corners ready for folding and welding.
The end result is a great screen for the client that is made for their needs - not what suits the supplier.
