From being a part of this industry for over two decades, there isn’t much we don’t know about sheetmetal. And one thing we are seeing more and more of is perforated metal being used outdoors. As it is durable in our unpredictable Queensland weather, it is a great material which everyone should consider taking advantage of.
Perforated sheet metal is ideal for many different applications including screens, partitions, and guards. Perforated panels and screens can be custom manufactured using a number of different metals and thicknesses. It can additionally be tailored to meet your specific requirements in both size and patterns.
Here is a great example that we come across of sheetmetal being creatively used outside. This is the Basque Culinary Centre in San Sebastian in Spain. The building is shaped in plan as a ‘U’. From the top, only 2.5 levels are visible- as one descends the slope, the others below reveal themselves. Held within these volumes are research and practice areas, changing-rooms, ateliers, precooking kitchen, raw and other specialised kitchens. The facades are predominantly executed in a sand coloured perforated sheet metal, creating a differential and interesting play of opacity and penetration.
Like the Spanish architects behind the Basque Culinary Centre, we too can design and fabricate custom perforated panels to order for many applications such as for architectural screens and metalwork, cladding and building facades to outdoor furniture. We are able to punch or laser cut a wide range of metals such as aluminium, stainless steel, mild steel, copper and Colorbond sheeting.
Our preference is to create cassette panels that can be bolted, screwed or welded together without requiring heavy framing for support. We use our turret punch to create custom made screening with either geometric patterns or more expressive artistic designs. We have an array of patterns and tooling on hand to fulfil all of your project requirements. Basic or complex, standard or custom, we offer perforation patterns to suit any decorative or functional requirement.
